Comments: I had all kinds of trouble with this event. It wasn't that I couldn't navigate to where I wanted to go, I just got there too slowly. If it's not a trail or a road, I'm pathetic. After stumbling through some undergrowth to reach control point six of eleven, I looked at my watch and saw I'd been on the course for nearly 90 minutes. When I looked at my map and saw how much work I had left to do, I quit. I haven't ever quit a course voluntarily before, and I was a bit disgusted with myself, but I didn't want to stumble around in the bushes for another 90 minutes. The sole highlight of this event was spotting a Western Tanager as I walked back to the registration area to let them know I was DNFing.

Sometimes I feel like I'm breathing underwater.
